the TIE fighter is such an inherently bad design.... it’s too heavy, and only seats two. the side panels give it VERY bad visibility, and the color palette rivals audis for “must drab”
Granted, it does have the X-wing out-numbered in sales, and number of people it seats, but that’s not always a good thing.
it’s literally the camry of the spacecraft world.
I’d take a beater Corellian YT-1300. at least those make up for their girth with ample power, and are reliable and simple to mod, much like an LS-equipped anything.

The whole point about the TIE fighter was that it was all about chasing people down and not being able to be shaken, like a Bat. It’s got an oversized engine and guns in exchange for not having a hyperdrive or any blast shielding.
It’s extremely fast, the guns were extremely powerful, and it was extremely cheap. It didn’t need side visibility because no one could get around/behind it, it was too fast, it could always chase you and keep you in its sights.
The perfect fighter for disposable troops.
The YT-1300 needs you to go all bosozoku on it for it to catch up and have the maneuverability. Plus it’s a lot older than the various TIE incarnations, a pre-war design not meant for combat. If you can’t get it to lightspeed you’re a sitting duck. Plus it takes 4 passengers to man the guns and turrets. Just not a good design at all for a dogfight!
Plus, I read on the forums that the YT-1300 has lots of reliability problems with their hyperdrive anyway. Haven’t there been like... 4 recalls?

yes, but isn’t that what being a spaceship enthusiast is all about? taking the clapped-out old models like the YT-1300, and making them better than the new ones?
Sure the TIE is fast, but it doesn’t have any style! it’s a corporate design, so it’s compromised!
at least with the X-wing, you’re getting a purposeful machine, whereas the TIE is a chase ship turned assault ship!
the YT-1300 may be old and a freighter by original design, but you know it’s engine is good for 1050kph in atmosphere. that’s equivalent to all but the top-end TIE models, and you don’t see those being flown by you usual Stormtroopers!
and yeah, there have been recalls on the YT-1300, but it’s mostly due to negligent owners not taking care of their hyperdrive systems.
I'm sure the TIE's have issues too, such as unintentional acceleration when in open space

No, that’s the rental lot. Ask the poor space equipment salesmen who are walking out looking for their ship - “let’s see now, row T, space 114, got to be around here somewhere”.
TIEMAX is just on the other side. Old rentals go directly there for resale.

I’d say it’s more Crown Vic than Camry. Just based on fleet sales numbers.
